Five Top Tips for the Perfect Kick Off Meeting
Starting the New Year with a kick off meeting is a great way to highlight successes from 2018, show appreciation to your staff and focus everyone on the goals for the year ahead. With a memorable event, you can be sure the key takeaways will be reflected upon when messages are carried forward from the kick off through to regular team meetings or internal communications.
Check out our five top tips on how you can deliver the perfect kick off meeting below and our special offer for meetings held between January and March 2019:
1. Location, Location, Location
Your starting point...and the first question that will be on your employees’ lips, “where is the kick off meeting being held?” A change of scenery is a great way to deliver a new experience for all, choose an interesting venue and one which will make your employees feel they are valued. But don’t forget the travel implications – if your venue isn’t easy to get to, then your employees won’t be arriving in the best mood.
2. Schedule the fun
Yes, sadly the best and most fun events aren’t created from spontaneity, they are researched and thought through, providing employees the time needed to relax and participate to bring new and interesting team building ideas to life. Look at what your chosen venue can deliver; can they do something a bit different? Cookery classes, falconry experiences, treasure hunts and cocktail making are just a few of the activities that we offer at Exclusive – try to think out of the box and speak to the venue to see what they can do which will excite your employees.
3. Take food seriously
There’s a good chance that you will get most comments and feedback about food and if you get it wrong, you’ll end up with hungry employees, tired brains and generally an event that’s a bit lacklustre. Work with your venue to keep the food interesting, tasty and with lots of break out bites and refreshments to keep them going throughout the day. And don’t forget your veggies, vegans, gluten frees and all the other dietary requirements your employees may have. All too often they are used to receiving poor alternatives, so once you have your list, go to your venue and make sure they can offer something just as tasty, if not more – you’ll never hear the end of it, in a good way!
4. Think about your spaces
Do the spaces in your venue really work for your event? Think about how employees to move from one space to another, does it flow, do you have break out areas? If the British weather allows, can you get your employees outside? A break with a breath of fresh air can really make the difference in an all day event. Another great idea if your event is sizeable – can you get exclusive use of the venue? This way you have complete privacy and full run of all the venue spaces, to work in designated spaces for each part of your event, no matter what the weather is like.
5. Ask the experts
The best venues will have the best team of experts behind the scenes to ensure your event goes perfectly without a hitch. From planning and ideas stages, right through to the on-the-day running of your event, you should be supported by a team or an event expert to ensure you not only make the most out of your venue, but you also make the most out of your event. Don’t be afraid to ask the venue how the event should run or ask them for ideas, it’s what they are there for and if they’re really great, they should be providing all of this info up front.
